Guess Who’s Back, Back Again

“Roaring Kitty” is back online

Known as Keith Gill IRL, he’s widely regarded as the leader of the pandemic-era meme stock frenzy. (Quick refresher: lots of individual “retail” investors bought GameStop stock in 2021, driving up its price and causing professional Wall Streeters betting against the stock — short-sellers — to lose big bucks.) The frenzy spawned class-action lawsuits, congressional hearings, and the Netflix movie Dumb Money.

After three years of silence, Gill returned to social media on Monday, posting a picture on X of a gamer leaning forward in his chair – a picture meant to signify the “game is on.”

Despite the lack of context or additional information, shares of GameStop and AMC (another meme stock fav) skyrocketed. GameStop soared as much as 275% over two days, and trading was halted several times due to volatility.

Truth to consider when tempted to risk it all on for a big windfall…“On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.”

WNBA Tip-Off

The W is back with more interest than ever.

After a women’s college basketball season that drew record ratings courtesy of a certain Iowan drafted first overall by the Indiana Fever, the “Caitlin Clark Effect” has moved to the WNBA.

The league kicked off its 28th season last night with four games, including the Connecticut Sun's first home opener sell-out in over 20 years. The Sun proved too bright for the Fever, winning 92-71, though Caitlin had a team-high 20 points; the Fever play their home opener tomorrow, airing on Prime.

The league announced that teams would be able to use charter airplanes for all regular-season games (previously, they were only allowed for back-to-back games), but there’s been confusion as to which teams will use them and when; the Fever showed off theirs on X.

CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
Whether you care about the WNBA, the NBA, the MLB, or even TTPD, we can agree that God’s call on our lives today is to live in a manner that reflects His undeserved love displayed on the cross. Pray that you will do that today.

“Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received.”

WORLD NEWS

Marching On

War efforts continue around the world.

Gaza is seeing its most intense fighting in weeks. In southern Gaza, 360,000 people have fled Rafah amid strikes and street battles as Israel takes the eastern part of the city. Israel is also advancing in Jabalia in northern Gaza, where Hamas regrouped after Israel scaled back operations in January.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Blinken made an unannounced trip to Kyiv yesterday. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy thanked Uncle Sam for the recently passed $61B aid package and asked for quick delivery; Blinken said it was “on its way.”

Further east, Russia is doing some rare reshuffling among its top military brass. President Putin is replacing his longtime defense minister with an economist in an effort to boost efficiency amid massive military expenditures.

CHRISTIAN RESPONSE
Join us in prayer for peace. We are confident that God can spread the peace he has given to those who trust him (Isaiah 26:3) across the globe.

“Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace; to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever. Amen.”
Book of Common Prayer, page 654

IN OTHER BREWS…

OpenAI has released its latest update, ChatGPT-4o. The “o” is for omni, a nod to the chatbot's increased capabilities “across text, vision, and audio.” OpenAI says ChatGPT can now converse using speech, interpret facial expressions, and respond to visual input in real-time. These features will be rolled out over time, with paid subscribers getting some performance perks.

Michael Cohen faced heated cross-examination yesterday after testifying about former President Trump’s personal involvement in purposefully mislabeled checks and false receipts surrounding payments made to Stormy Daniels. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) spoke to reporters outside former President Trump’s trial, calling it an illegitimate “sham.”

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is splitting up. Three years after the couple’s divorce, Melinda French Gates is leaving the nonprofit she cofounded with her ex-husband, Bill Gates, saying it’s time for the “next chapter of [her] philanthropy.” She is starting a new $12.5 billion foundation focused on women and families.

Five of six swing states polled are trending toward former President Trump. New polling shows Trump with the edge among likely voters in Wisconsin, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. Biden says his campaign has “momentum” and that “the polling data has been wrong all along.” Meanwhile, key senate races in Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona, and Pennsylvania appear to be leaning blue.

Oh, Canada… your air is touching our air again. Wildfire season started in a blaze, with over 80 wildfires burning across Canada’s western provinces. Smoke wafted south, bringing air quality alerts to Minnesota and Wisconsin on Monday and yesterday to Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Kansas — where Kansas City had the U.S.’s worst air quality thanks to the haze.

What We’re Searching With
Freespoke*

Oh, the internet. It’s a scary place… but less so with Freespoke.

Freespoke is a search engine that does a few important things differently:

  • News results show all viewpoints labeled with media biases (left, middle, right)

  • No adult content – they’re a partner in protecting our families from bad content

  • Shopping results highlight quality veteran-owned and American-made businesses

Perhaps most importantly… when you search “The Pour Over,” we’re the top result (not some silly coffee brewing method), and that search is kept private.

Try a search on Freespoke, and see why the world needs an honest search engine.

What We’re Taking
Bioma’s Gut Health Quiz*

‌I love this quiz for one simple reason… it offers solutions beyond just trying to sell you something!

My quiz results were unexpected. They gave me practical tips like which foods to steer clear of, suggested stretches and activities to ease gut discomfort, and explained why my gut acts up sometimes.

It’s not an everyday thing, but my tummy doesn’t always feel quite right. While I don’t want to get too personal, Bioma does. Instead of dishing out generic advice, they dig into your specific issues to give spot-on recommendations.

Take Bioma’s 1-minute Gut Health Quiz, and if you decide to purchase their probiotics, use code TPO10 for 10% OFF + FREE SHIPPING.
